The Winged Knight

Once upon a time on a cloudy day, Lady Terezka was sitting near the window. Her eyes gazed into the field surrounding her beautiful castle. Her mind flew somewhere, far to her dreams. If we could look at her face, we might find unhappiness there. All people thought that she was the luckiest woman on the earth at that time, because she lived in a very beautiful castle and married to a young handsome knight with a gentle heart. But deep inside her heart, all was different. Indeed she had a beautiful castle, but after quite a long time lived inside it, she felt that that was not her home.

She looked at the linden tree that located not far from her window. Now the leaves started to fall one by one. It was a linden tree which was planted by her husband to remind them at her previous home, her lovely small castle. Under the linden tree near her castle they met each other for the first time. She knew exactly that he was the part of the cavalries that had just conquered some parts of her kingdom. She knew exactly that he served a big kingdom, which located far in the east, among the golden sand mountains. She knew exactly that he believe in different way with her. But Lady Terezka did not care about that. All that she believed is that this knight was very kind and gentle-hearted, loyal and even willing to leave his kingdom, just to build another castle on the land he had conquered, although all his companion has returned to their kingdom.

While gazed at the green field below her window, suddenly she saw a gleaming light from afar. The light came nearer and nearer and it revealed to her as a strong white horse bore a knight in a shining armor. She was amazed with what she saw. Who was the knight, who dare to enter this area. He must be not one of her husband's companion. He must be a knight from an unknown place to her, because as she paid more attention to him, it seemed to her that there were wings on his back.
"A winged knight?" she whispered to herself. "I wondered where he came from. What are he doing near my castle?"
Even though she knew exactly that he didn't part of her castle, she hoped that this knight will pass the field safely, without being known by any of her husband's knight. But then the knight suddenly disappeared. Lady Terezka was surprised and began to search him, who had become her center of attention for a while. But before she could find the mysterious knight, someone called her name. The voice came from below, just below her window.
"I beg your pardon, young lady. But why do you seem very sad in this lovely day?" asked the voice politely.
Surprised, because it was the mysterious knight who spoke to her, Lady Terezka answered, "I...I.. i just wondering if my choice was true...."

The knight smiled without replying anything. He stared at the beautiful woman at the window and waited, as if he knew that Lady Terezka would answer more. And he was right.
"I'm not sure if I chose the right way... to agree and live in this place," said Lady Terezka.
"But this place is very beautiful, my lady. Why should you be sad because of it?" asked the winged knight.
"Because I feel trapped inside here, inside my own choice to marry the owner," answered the lady again.
"Is he mean to you? What had he done to you so that you become sad right now?"
"No, he didn't do anything. In fact he is very kind and gentle-hearted. But it's me who feel uncomfortable with everything. I just heard what happen outside there. What his friends has done to my beloved land, my beloved kingdom. I know that he don't do anything and aren't involved in it, but those friends.... I can't see him being with his friends," told Lady Terezka to the winged knight.
"Oh, well, i understand. It seems that you and he come from different origin and now both of your kingdom are in war against each other," the knight smiled.
Lady Terezka nodded. Far in her heart she hoped that this knight wants to help her by giving some advice.
"But the difference don't give a problem, right?"
"No, it doesn't. Even he built for me a special room to preserve my culture and let me decorate this castle in the way i want. But i still feel trapped. I can't eat my favorite food again, because it was uncommon for his tongue. I can't speak freely when deep in my heart i disagree with what his knights do, because i don't want to hurt his heart. He was proud of his culture and his knights. But i can't stand here without doing anything, while his friends attacked and conquered parts of my kingdom one by one," said Lady Terezka. Her voice sounded hopeless.
"Before you took this decision, my Lady, do you think about these consequences? What had attracted you to join him in the eternal vow?" asked the winged knight, his voice sounded very mature and wise for Lady Terezka, and she couldn't resist not to answer.
"I was still young at that time. For me, to be free from my childhood castle was really a dream. And there he came, with some adventurous challenges lay ahead. He introduced me to the world I've never known, the world of his culture and his kingdom which until that time I read only through old scrolls in my father's room. He was very romantic at that time. He wrote me some Minnelieds and that was so sweet. I ran away with him despite of the forbid of my parents..," said the beautiful lady.
The winged knight smiled slyly. He planned to do something. He knew that there is a solution for this enchanting lady. But he had to think about it first. And then the lady asked him.
"And who are you, winged knight? Never I heard about you before, nor your cavalry. Where are you come from? And where is your position in this terrible war?"
"I'm one of the winged knight cavalry. The strongest among all cavalry in this war. I'm behind your kingdom, my lady. I serve your king with my loyalty and everything that i have. I practice some culture with you and i believe in the same way with you. I know exactly what happen outside there and that you're in danger, my lady. You should immediately run away."
"What? Me? Runaway? But how... I'm trapped behind this high wall," said Lady Terezka sadly.
"Write your husband a letter of goodbye and jump here, my lady. I'll save you from this castle forever. You'll enjoy my castle very much. You can live freely and there is no enemy knights, because I and my companion will not let them enter our peaceful land."
And the beautiful Lady Terezka did what the winged knight said. She jumped onto his horse and ran away forever, left her dark past time and the trapping castle. In the land of the winged knight, they live happily ever after and keep fighting against the kingdom from the east until they left the land forever.
